October 2005 Schedule
One of the most important meetings of the year. The nominees for your Board of Directors are nominated. Be at the meeting. The Board of Directors sets the direction for the club for the next year. Get involved. Great raffle too! Meeting starts at 7:30 PM at the range clubhouse. There will be a discussion on the NRA Shooting Sports Camp Program.
DID YOU KNOW THE TRAP MACHINE IS BROKEN?? At this meeting, the CRC (your club and the other 4 clubs) will be discussing the various options - fix it (short term), rebuild it locally, factory rebuild, or a new heavier duty trap machine. What will the final decision be? What's going on about the rifle range and general purpose range (P-4)? Will there be goats at the range to help with weed control? Which club(s) are raising (yes, raising) their dues because their members don't come out to work parties? You might be surprised at the answer. And other matters will be discussed.
Saturday and Sunday - open shooting - trap, skeet, rifle, pistol, Cowboy Action, small bore, etc. We don't know what Sunday Morning rifle match is planned, but there should be something - bring rimfire, centerfire and military - one of them should be the one - scoped and iron sights - always a lot of fun and challenging too. Sunday Lunch (yes!!) will be Oktoberfest - arranged by Horace Fernandez and Tobe Cowden - should be German sausages, beer and potato salad - nominal fee to cover costs. Let's all show up for this - show the club's support - some long time members will be there too!! Come out and see who they are - surprises. The usual spectacular Saturday Nite BBQ will be lit off at O:dusk 30 as usual. The weather should be fairly warm, no rain predicted (as of today). Bring a friend and come on out and visit with your club members - I've seen some really good deals made on shotguns, ammo, reloading supplies, etc. at one of these BBQ's. You just never know what fun will be going on.
The National Rifle Association is putting on a program on providing a NRA Shooting Sports Camp, how to put one on, learn how to recruit club members, how to apply for a grant to offset costs, hear what has works from other successful club members who have done these camps. The $10 fee will be reimbursed by Canyon Oaks to any member who attends plus some gas money - please car pool with other members if you can. NRA will provide lunch. Runs from 9 AM to 4 PM. Where - BSA Ventura County Council Building, 509 Daily Drive, Camarillo CA (805) 482-8938. To reserve a spot call Nick Clark (days) 805-642-2673 or evenings 805-676-1915. Your Board of Directors supports this program and wants as many members to attend as can. So far, we have two attendees out of a membership of over 100. This is for the future of the club. If you are inspired by the program, the Board will back your efforts financially and with manpower. See Brad or Mike Baptist on the range weekend - they will have copies of the flyer the NRA sent and will try to answer your questions.
The last month's big bore shoot was a Bingo Match - 2 divisions. Iron Sights - Les MacWillie, Jr. was first and Margo Brokop shot her way to second place. The Scoped Division - 1st place Les MacWillie, Sr.; 2nd Mike Totta, 3rd Len Totta (Sr.) and 4th place to Carlos Parada.

MONTHLY SAFETY ITEM - Remember to always wear safety glasses and hearing protection when shooting. It doesn't take much of an accident to burn an eyeball, rupture an eardrum. It's not about fashion, it's about the rest of your life and how you'll have to live it if you lose.
